If we think about the main sources for design, manufacture or supply of electric motors or drive systems, we can find a multitude of contenders in the market. However, for the purposes of this overview document, we have identified some of the major players and broken down the list into several sub-categories, consisting of producers of industrial and residential applications only. We have also intentionally excluded automotive, rail and aviation, and focused on applications ranging in size from 50W to 5kW.

Some of the players in the field of innovation may be smaller and younger, however they are revolutionizing the ways in which electric motors are designed, manufactured and used by multiple industries.
